Knollwood is a premier active continuing care retirement community dedicated to serving retired military officers and their families. The community offers four levels of care: (1) independent living, (2) assisted living, (3) skilled nursing care, and (4) the Special Care Center for individuals with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. In this sense, Knollwood provides its residents with the same benefits as a Life Plan Community.

Why Life Plan?

A Life Plan Community-also known as a Continuing Care Retirement Community, or CCRC-provides abundant amenities and services for adults aged 62 and older, as well as access to all levels of care (often referred to as “the full continuum” of care) within an active lifestyle setting. CCRCs have been operating across the country for more than 50 years.

Knollwood offers active living, wellness, safety, and security to our residents. Residents enjoy peace of mind knowing that a plan for future healthcare needs is in place, should they ever need it – provided by the premier Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, easily accessed by dedicated, easy to use Knollwood busses.

Knollwood’s residences offer the features active residents desire in a new home, but without the work and maintenance required by home ownership. Added to this are the lifestyle benefits, such as recreational amenities, innovative fitness and wellness programs, dining options, creative enrichment programs, socializing opportunities, and the many activities and recreational opportunities available on our 16 acre scenic campus on Rock Creek Park in NW Washington DC

Beyond Life Plan

Knollwood reaches beyond the significant benefits of a Life Plan Community by providing a community setting for carefree living with other retired military officers and their families. Knollwood is reserved for retired officers from all uniformed services of the United States. Officers’ spouses, surviving spouses, parents, parents in-law, children and siblings may also be eligible. Operated by the Army Distaff Foundation, Knollwood offers a unique benefit to those who have served – financial means is not a litmus test to becoming a Knollwood resident.

For more than 50 years, Knollwood has been the preferred retirement destination for retired military officers, dedicated to serving those who have served our country, and it is growing to provide all of the outstanding benefits of a Life Plan Community.
